BlueHost is one of the most popular web hosting providers on the market with almost 15 years of experience in the industry. Each month 20.000 new customers choose BlueHost as their personal web host. This was a good reason for us to check if BlueHost is suitable for hosting Magento website.

BlueHost offers a wide range of features that can make the management of you Magento website very easy. We liked very much that BlueHost offers a 1-Click-Installer for Magento, which is very convenient if you can’t do the installation manually. Under the Software / Services section in BlueHost’s Control Panel you have to select “Simple Scripts” and simply follow the instructions to install Magento.

SimpleScripts will create the database for your website and your Magento store will be set for use in only few minutes. We found it is very convenient to use. With this 1-click-installer you can also add multiple Magento installation in order to use one as a test for new Magento features, so you don’t have to mess up with your live store.

If you do have the knowledge to install Magento yourself, you should have the following in mind. It is very important to change the PHP version of your account to the latest PHP version as required by Magento. You can change the PHP you are using from Software / Services section by selecting PHP Config. This way you will speed your site up and also solve problems with permissions every time you upgrade.

For the manual installation it is also important to enable SSH access on your account. In order to do this you will have to scan or photocopy your driver’s license and send it to BlueHost. This might take up to 2 days, but will make your future work much easier.

After the installation was successful we had no trouble to add new products, configure the payment and shipping modules, and to manage the shop. Web Hosting $6.95

    Globally, I was very satisfied with Bluehost.

    Support: So far, I have not seen such a great customer support. People on lie support were very helpful even though I’m a beginner, and they gave me basic advice on what I should accomplish even when I decided to change host (reasons later).

    Uptime and speed: I did not notice any issue with this aspect of hosting. My website isn’t a behemoth, though, so I can’t testify so much on that part.

    Value: As a renewing customer, I was a bit disappointed by the price they offered me for a 3 years hosting. I was seeing better offers elsewhere (and even for Bluehost NEW customers) so I decided to leave. The customer support did try to find a way to keep me, but it was not enough.

    Globally, if you’re ok with the price, go all in. They’re great!

    I’ve signed up with dozens of webhosts through the years and NEVER had this much trouble setting up a new account – and NONE of them have asked for a copy of my driver’s license and credit card!!

    If you’re trying to setup a site fast, DON’T USE BlueHost!

    2 days of trying to setup the account – finally I called them on the 3rd day and was told I had to send them a copy of my license and credit card. I asked them to please wait while I send it, and they said NO ONE WAS AVAILABLE TO REVIEW IT UNTIL TOMORROW!

    This, combined with people just didn’t seem to care about me as a new/potential customer means – AWFUL customer service!

    Had a terrible experience with Simple Helix, so we moved our shop to Bluehost. It’s better now and I hope it stays this way. Speed is okay. Didn’t have the chance to test out the support yet.
